UC Berkeley/Davis Programs

Overview

・By applying through the University of Tokyo, you can take courses at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) or UC Davis for one semester to one year.
・This is a self-financed study abroad program. In principle, all costs, including tuition, must be borne by the student. (However, you can apply for study abroad scholarships provided by the University of Tokyo and/or private foundations.)
・You will need to follow the regulations of your affiliated faculty or graduate school regarding procedures for "study abroad" or "leave of absence" during your study abroad.
・At UC Berkeley, you will participate in the American and International Study Program (AISP) and take courses on American Politics and International Relations.
・At UC Davis, you will participate in the Global Study Program (GSP), where you can take almost any courses offered at the university, and English language courses are also available.

Other Direct UC Study Abroad Programs

In addition to the "UC Berkeley/Davis Programs", there are other programs that allow you to study at UC campuses. Please compare and consider them before applying.

・This program allows students to apply directly and take a wide range of courses at UC Berkeley for one semester to one year.
・You can apply for a scholarship of provided by the program.

・SAF is a non-profit organization that supports study abroad programs, including those at UC campuses. By studying abroad through SAF, you will receive support from the organization.

Application Cycle

UC Berkeley holds one application cycle per year (around March), and UC Davis holds two cycles per year (around March and July). Please refer to the application guidelines for more details. Students who pass the internal selection will apply directly to UC campuses.

Language Requirements

You must submit proof of your English language proficiency by the deadline specified in the application guidelines for each program. This can include TOEFL or IELTS scores, as outlined below:

UC Berkeley: TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS (Academic Module) 7.0
UC Davis: TOEFL iBT 61-80, IELTS (Academic Module) 5.5–6.5
