Visit by the Ambassador of India to Japan

On July 14, 2026, a delegation led by H.E. Ms. Nagma Mohamed Mallick, Ambassador of India to Japan, visited the University of Tokyo and held discussions with President Teruo Fujii, Executive Vice President Kaori Hayashi, and Vice President Yujin Yaguchi.

During the meeting, the participants reflected on the long-standing history of exchanges between the University of Tokyo and India and engaged in broad discussions on the future development of student exchanges and research collaborations. President Fujii emphasized that India is an important partner for the University and expressed his hope for an increase in the number of Indian students studying at the University of Tokyo.

Ambassador Mallick highlighted the growing demand among Indian students for overseas education and expressed her expectation for strengthened cooperation with Japanese universities, including the University of Tokyo.

The discussions also covered collaboration in the field of agriculture, as well as commemorative initiatives marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, and the 150th anniversary of the University of Tokyo in 2027. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the cooperation and further advancing educational and research exchanges between Japan and India.
